Factors that increase the risk of colon cancer

3. Diet low in fiber and high in processed foods.

A diet rich in red meat, processed meats (such as bacon or sausages), fast food, and refined carbohydrates has been strongly associated with colon cancer.

At the same time, diets that lack:

can reduce fiber intake, slowing digestion and increasing colon inflammation.

4. Lack of physical activity

A sedentary lifestyle contributes to slowed digestion, increased inflammation, and an increase in body fat—all factors that raise the risk of colorectal cancer. Regular physical activity can reduce this risk by improving metabolism and gut health.

5. Obesity and excess body fat

Being overweight, particularly with excess abdominal fat, is associated with a significantly higher risk of developing colon cancer. Obesity also increases the risk of more aggressive forms of cancer and a poorer prognosis.

6. Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption

Tobacco contains carcinogenic substances that enter the bloodstream and affect many organs, including the colon.
Excessive alcohol consumption (especially more than two drinks per day) increases this risk by promoting inflammation and damaging the lining of the digestive tract.
7. Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD)
:
Ulcerative colitis,
Crohn’s disease
